This year will see the rise of “anti-AI” – where consumers and employees will refuse to use AI tools on ethical grounds. They’re very concerned about data exploitation, algorithmic bias, and the environmental cost of AI computing.
Can It Be Avoided?
Some English businesses are already offering opt-out features, or human-only alternatives in their products. Others will proclaim “AI-free” credentials as a differentiator, attracting a small but significant number of anti-AI consumers.
This leads to a difficult compromise particularly with cybersecurity organisations, refusing to allow AI will not be practical. This could well lead to the customer having to fend for themselves with no “non AI” options available for their protection.

AI is continuing apace across in all areas of business in England and beyond. It will continue to infiltrate more and more and more, there’s no stopping it. Choosing a ‘non AI’ option may well not be an option in the future for the most part.

As English businesses incorporate AI as part of their business model it will become extremely difficult if not impossible to not use AI in at least some part of their business process. AI will become necessary because of its time-saving and efficiency, therefore reducing costs. If competitors don’t use AI in their business then their costs won’t be reduced and they will become less competitive. Which may lead to ‘AI or die’ in most business sectors despite the huge computing power needed to support it.
Don’t think this all in the future it is here now and growing rapidly, almost silently. There are very few non-technology businesses bragging about using AI, they are incorporating it very much under the radar and have no requirement to inform their customers of its usage under English law.

Resistance
But there is some resistance for example you can sign a Government petition ‘Ban the use of AI generated models in advertising campaigns’ and the Music Publishers Association (MPA) is lending its support to the ‘Make It Fair’ campaign which calls on the Government to protect the creative industries in the age of generative AI. These petitions and Anti-AI sentiment will continue to grow as people become aware of how it affects their lives.
Summary
AI is a juggernaut that can’t be stopped, most English businesses will have no choice but to use it in one form or another. Consumers will just be expected to accept it. There is no avoiding it, AI is here to stay. There will be niche businesses that will offer ‘non AI’ product and services, but it will become a feature, a selling point for the few.
