AI Is Scary

AI Is Scary

It’s everywhere

It is a brilliant technology which offers unparalleled improvements and speeds up mundane tasks flawlessly, well almost! However, as amazing as the results are the repercussions of AI in todays world are truly scary.

Because of AI setting up fake websites is so much easier and more believable. In the past they were relatively easy to spot often written by non-native English speakers with misspellings, bad grammar and broken links. Poor low quality images were used and the general look and feel looked pretty shoddy.

Not anymore because online AI translators can instantly correct spelling mistakes and not only point out bad grammar but offer the proper use of grammar even on a poorly written description. AI images are of good enough quality to be used on websites and offer a very professional look for free.

In other words a professional looking website even with poor quality original content can be transformed quickly and relatively easily with AI. This makes spotting the difference that much harder and does lead to people being more easily duped online.

AI also making hacking easier as instead of having to interact and make choices manually AI will make the most relevant choice on behalf of the hacker. For instance should I continue with this form of hacking or is it unlikely to succeed therefore logically another form of attack should be used which has a higher percentage of success. The algorithms would be extremely difficult to calculate for a human but AI can do the heavy lifting and calculate the odds.

Social Engineering

Another form of hacking which can’t be underestimated is ‘social networking’ in other words communicating with people directly may be by phone calls, social media messaging or email for example. The aim one way or the other is extract your information or information about the company. Again in the past the scammers interacting would have poor English, poor grammar and dodgy connections with phone numbers that definitely weren’t English for example.

But with the advent of AI they can now use tools to correct their shortcomings and appear to be genuine interactions. Now this is still far from perfect and can often to be sussed out, but not always. As AI develops so will the tools available to these lowlifes and telling the difference real and fake will become more and more difficult.

If you ring up and book an appointment for example have you just interacted with a person or a purpose built AI simulation, hard to say these days. Is the person you are chatting with and getting to know on social media real or fake, can you be sure? This is part of the reason why AI is scary and still in its infancy.

AI is everywhere and will intrude in our everyday lives at so many levels in the future often times we won’t even see it coming. Here is the scariest part how do you protect yourself and your family from the advances in AI, simple you can’t! Now the gate is open not just for hackers but governments and companies who will find more and more creative ways to exploit you one way or another.

All you can do is use common sense, be careful how you interact online and if you are in doubt don’t proceed no matter how good an offer might seem.

If you look through this website you will see tips on how to protect yourself online as well as offline. AI or no AI criminals will always look for the easier target first it simply quicker and more efficient. If you put precautions in place such as two-factor authentication, complex passwords and avoid obvious traps as detailed above you give yourself less chance of being a victim.

It is much like to two cars that are the same parked in a car park and one has a steering lock and an active dashcam and one doesn’t which one is the thief going to steal. They will always choose the easiest option, don’t make yourself the easiest option.
